Alex Strachan
Horn, Principal
Member Since 2016

Alex Strachan has been making music since he was 4, first on the violin and later on his life long love, the horn. While at Johns Hopkins, he studied with Larry Williams of the Peabody Institute and played in numerous ensembles and was the 4 year First Horn of the Hopkins Wind Ensemble. After taking a break from organized music to accommodate other career goals, Alex is back for many seasons to come with the Oakland Civic Orchestra.

Alex maintains an alarmingly large collection of pre-war horns, the newest of which dates from the 1930s. Outside of music, he is based in San Francisco and enjoys exploring the food scene with his wife and hanging out with his overly enthusiastic husky mix.
