"In the Heart of Oakland, For the Heart of Oakland"
Oakland Civic Orchestra (OCO) celebrates its 29th season in 2020-2021 and is committed to presenting free and accessible concerts. A thriving community orchestra, the ensemble maintains a roster of at least 50-65 musicians from all walks of life from throughout the Bay Area who come together for the joy and connection of playing music together. OCO performs high-quality, free, and accessible afternoon concerts to a loyal following in the beautiful lakeside setting of Lake Merritt in downtown Oakland and frequently engages students, emerging young artists, and established professional musicians as guest soloists. The orchestra also performs works of local composers and strives to represent increasingly diverse musical voices to our audiences. Concerts are presented in a child-friendly, comfortable environment and adult seating is wheelchair accessible. Some concert programming is specifically geared to children.
Sponsored by the City of Oakland, the orchestra is completely self-sustaining through donations made to the non-profit fiscal sponsorship of the Oakland Parks and Recreation Foundation and membership fees.
