John Schroder
Cello
Member Since 2008

John Schroder was walking his puppy, when he heard an anomalous sound: Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony being performed at the San Antonio Park Gazebo. That was in 2008, and John has been playing with OCO (off and on) ever since. Schroder began his musical journey on piano at the Vienna Conservatory at the tender age of seven. His father, Donn, was studying composition and theory, and when the Schroder family returned to the Bay Area, John continued his studies on piano and began learning cello at the Oakland Recreation Department Summer Music School at McChesney (now Edna Brewer) school.

John Schroder is retired from his attempts (for most of two decades) to become a soul music star, as well as his second career as an instrumental music teacher, and enjoys building outdoor furniture and playing chamber music as hobbies. He lives in Oakland with his spouse, Ann, and their two pitties, Gumbo and Jambalaya.
