Margaret Wu
Violin I, Co-Concertmaster
Member Since 1997
Margaret believes it’s never too early – or too late – to do what you love! She began violin lessons at the age of 4 and grew up playing in school orchestras and other ensembles, including the Texas All-State Symphony and the Houston Youth Symphony. As an undergraduate at Stanford University, she studied with Gennady Kleyman, was a member of the chamber orchestra, and played in the pit for a number of musicals (where she had so much fun, she decided to major in theater in addition to English). Her music languished for a number of years with work and law school before she discovered OCO. She has since enjoyed the camaraderie and inspiration of playing with OCO for over 20 years. She has also done freelance work (including with the Santa Cruz Symphony), performed electric fiddle with a rock band, and continues to plays chamber music with friends and at workshops.
In her day job, Margaret serves as Deputy General Counsel for Litigation and Capital Strategies in the Office of the General Counsel for the University of California. She leads a team of lawyers who provide legal services in litigation, construction, real estate, land use, and environmental health and safety matters for the UC system statewide. Although it’s not part of her job description, she also occasionally performs at office parties and talent shows. She is a big fan of school music programs and public education in general.
