Sara Rusché began playing viola at the age of 10 in the Flagstaff Public School system. She studied privately into college, at which point she took a break to become a professional sailor. While living in Traverse City, MI and attending the Great Lakes Maritime Academy, she played with the Traverse Symphony Orchestra. She moved to the Bay Area in 2004 to pursue a teaching career and joined the Oakland Civic Orchestra in 2006. She is a founding member of Opus Oakland, a chamber group associated with the Oakland Civic Orchestra.
